A chess board with alternating squares of deep burgundy lacquered wood and crushed mother of pearl mosaic in absolute chromatic opposition.

The mother of pearl squares are filled with irregularly cut shell pieces in ivory, champagne and pale gold, catching light differently so the white squares shimmer as the angle changes. The border is a masterwork of micro-mosaic restraint — concentric guards of camel bone and dark wood in diamond lattice and star devices, stepping down toward the field. A masterpiece of the craft, functioning as centrepiece and playing surface alike.
