Mother of Pearl & Resin Chest of Drawers — Indigo Ground with Floral Vine & Rosette Handles
A chest of drawers of exceptional decorative richness, its entire surface — top, front, and sides — covered in hand-cut mother of pearl inlay on a deep indigo resin ground without interruption. Four drawers are arranged in the classic commode format: two shorter drawers above, two full-width drawers below, each faced with a continuous scrolling vine of leaves and flowers rendered in warm champagne and gold-toned mother of pearl that trails across the indigo ground with botanical abundance. Each drawer is centred on a carved mother of pearl rosette pull — a detail that is simultaneously functional and ornamental, the handles themselves part of the decorative programme rather than an interruption to it.
The top surface continues the inlay in a different register: a central circular medallion of concentric scrollwork is framed by a diamond dot border running the full perimeter, the composition more geometric and contained than the floral exuberance of the drawer fronts below. The sides carry the same vine pattern as the front, ensuring the piece reads as a fully resolved object from every angle. The bracket feet at the base are inlaid to the floor, the treatment complete to the very bottom.
A piece of this scale and surface quality functions as the centrepiece of a bedroom or dressing room — the kind of furniture that defines a space rather than furnishes it.
