Mother of Pearl Inlaid Ceramic Vase — Mosaic Tessellated Amphora Form
A classical amphora silhouette entirely clad in hand-cut mother of pearl tiles, each piece laid individually across the swelling body, narrow neck, and flared shoulder in a close tessellated mosaic that follows the curves of the form without interruption. The surface shifts continuously in the light — from pure white to soft champagne, from pale gold to the faintest blush — as the iridescent quality of the shell responds to every change in angle and illumination. No two tiles catch the light in quite the same way, giving the vase a living, luminous quality that no painted or glazed surface can replicate.
The neck is finished with a narrow band of dark patinated metal at the rim, a deliberate contrast that frames the opening and grounds the piece. The body tapers to a clean base, the mosaic continuing to the very foot without interruption. The grout lines between tiles are fine and consistent, evidence of the patience and precision the technique demands.
A piece that earns its place on any surface it occupies — console, sideboard, or shelf — and that rewards proximity, the detail only becoming richer the closer one looks.
