Moorish Cloisonné Enamel Pendant Lanterns — Hand-Enamelled Polychrome Globe, Matching Pair
A pair of pendant lanterns of extraordinary decorative richness, each hand-enamelled in the cloisonné tradition across a spherical globe body suspended from an ornate brass chain and ceiling rose. The dark metal framework is divided into horizontal registers by wrought iron bands of scrolling foliate ornament, each zone filled with dense hand-painted enamel motifs — floral rosettes, arabesque scrolls, diamond devices, and bands of calligraphic script — in cobalt blue, teal, coral, ivory, and sage green against a near-black ground. The effect is one of jewel-like intensity: a surface that rewards close examination and commands attention from across a room in equal measure.
The globe tapers at the base to a pointed drop finial, the upper section narrowing to a decorated collar and chain of heavy brass links that carry the piece to an enamelled ceiling rose of matching character. Iron scroll brackets punctuate the equator of the globe, providing structural articulation and additional decorative detail. The ceiling rose is enamelled in the same palette as the body — a detail that elevates the lantern from a light fitting to a complete decorative object.
Presented as a matching pair, these pendant lanterns are suited to a double-height entrance hall, a dining room, or any interior that asks for a ceiling-hung centrepiece of genuine craft and visual authority. Rare, labour-intensive, and entirely without equivalent in contemporary production.
