Monumental Empire-Style Brass & Crystal Basket Chandelier — Draped Bronze Crown with Crystal Bead Basket, Single
A chandelier of exceptional grandeur and historical pedigree, constructed in the Empire tradition with a wide draped bronze crown of scalloped swag and ball ornament surmounting a deep basket of dense crystal beads that cascade in overlapping rows to a pointed drop finial. The crown is cast in dark patinated bronze with an upper register of foliate scrollwork and a lower border of alternating scallop and bead festoons — a composition drawn directly from the vocabulary of early nineteenth-century European decorative metalwork at its most opulent. From the crown, multiple decorative chains of bronze rise to a substantial shell-form ceiling rose of polished brass, each chain adorned with hanging crystal drops that catch the light as the chandelier moves.
The crystal basket is the heart of the piece — hundreds of individually strung crystal beads arranged in tight concentric rows that form a seamless dome of refracted light. When illuminated, the effect is total: every crystal bead becomes a prism, scattering light across the room in thousands of overlapping points and creating an atmosphere of extraordinary warmth and luminosity.
At 60 centimetres wide and 110 centimetres tall, this chandelier demands a ceiling of generous height — a grand dining room, a double-height salon, a formal entrance hall, or a ballroom. It is among the most ambitious and historically resonant lighting pieces in the collection.
