Levantine Mother of Pearl Inlaid Armoire — Signed Ahmed Jamil Sarsar, Dated 1890

A monumental antique armoire signed and dated 1890, its entire surface covered in hand-cut mother of pearl inlay on dark wood.

Geometric arabesques, floral rosettes and interlacing star forms are worked with the density of a master at the height of his practice, three mirrored doors occupying the central register beneath a triple ogee arch crown rising in tiers of fine marquetry. The scalloped apron and carved feet complete the treatment from crown to floor without interruption. At 352 cm tall, this piece does not furnish a room — it defines one.
