Handknotted Wool Rug — Dual Medallion Field with Slate Blue Floral Border
A finely knotted rug of classical medallion composition, its field organised around two distinct registers stacked vertically — an upper panel in soft cream bearing a pale octagonal medallion of sky blue and gold, and a lower panel anchored by a bold geometric star medallion in deep olive and ivory, its angular form drawn with the precision of a piece made by a confident and accomplished hand. Between them, a band of scrolling ivory arabesque provides a moment of breath and transition. The overall effect is of a field in quiet dialogue with itself — two temperaments, one composition.
The border is rich and layered: an inner guard of stylised tulip forms in navy and ivory, a broad outer band populated with a continuous repeat of floral palmettes in dusty blue, rust, sage, and camel against a dark ground, and a final narrow edging that contains the whole. The twisted ivory fringe along both short ends is generous and well-preserved. The sheen of the pile suggests a wool of fine quality, possibly with a silk weft, giving the surface a subtle lustre that photographs well and ages even better.
At this scale — compact enough for a study, bedroom, or hallway — this rug functions as a collector's piece: the kind bought for what it is, not simply for what it covers.
