Hand-Painted Ceramic Vessel — Twin-Handled Amphora with Floral & Calligraphic Motifs

A ceramic vessel of singular and arresting form, its two broad flat handles extending outward like wings from the body — an architectural gesture that transforms what might otherwise be a simple jug into something closer to a sculptural object. The entire surface, handles included, is covered in hand-painted decoration on a warm ivory ground: flowering branches bearing teal and black berries wind continuously around the handles, while the body is divided into registers of geometric and floral ornament in amber, teal, black, and white, each band distinct in motif yet unified in palette.

The body narrows through a faceted waist before opening to a short cylindrical neck, its shoulder painted with a dense frieze of pendant forms. A calligraphic inscription runs along the lower register of the body — painted with care and clearly bearing meaning, adding a layer of cultural and historical depth to a piece already rich in decorative intent. The glaze is aged and irregular in the manner of a genuinely hand-worked piece, the surface alive with the small imperfections that distinguish craft from manufacture.

An unusual and collectible object — as much a work of ceramic art as it is a vessel, suited to display on a console, shelf, or within a curated collection of decorative objects.
