Hand-Inlaid Double Door — Camel Bone on Black Resin with Peacock & Vine Arabesque
A breathtaking door entirely hand-inlaid with camel bone set into deep black resin, creating a dramatic ivory-on-ebony contrast that covers every centimetre of both panels without interruption. The composition is a continuous garden of life — sinuous vine tendrils, dense leaf scrollwork, clusters of grapes and lotus blooms rising from the base — inhabited throughout by peacocks, songbirds and exotic fowl perched among the branches.
A scalloped Moorish arch frames the upper field of each panel, while the lower register carries a symmetrical garden scene of exceptional delicacy. The iron ring handle at the centre is the only element of restraint in a piece of otherwise total decorative ambition.
The bone inlay on black resin technique produces a graphic intensity unlike any other inlay tradition — each piece individually cut and set by hand, thousands of fragments composing a single unified image.
