Hand-Carved African Wood Wall Panel — Three Village Life Medallions with Brass Mounts
A monumental carved wood wall panel of exceptional narrative richness, its arched form divided into three circular and octagonal medallion scenes — each one a dense composition of figures from African village life rendered in deep relief. Musicians beat drums, communities gather, and traditional ceremonies unfold across the three registers in a carved language of considerable vitality and skill, the figures animated and the scenes populated with architectural details of thatched dwellings and palm trees. A tribal geometric border runs the full length of both sides, its carved motifs punctuated at regular intervals by brass figurine and mask mounts — small sculptural accents that add a note of metalwork to the predominantly wooden surface. The whole panel is topped by a carved arch, its curved crown giving the piece the presence of a portal or a sacred threshold.
A wall panel of rare character — its African narrative tradition and its scale giving it a presence that few decorative objects can match.
