Domed Trunk Jewellery Box — Camel Bone & Mother of Pearl Micro-Mosaic with Brass Keyhole

A domed trunk jewellery box entirely covered in hand-inlaid camel bone and mother of pearl micro-mosaic on a dark wood ground.

The lid presents hexagonal star medallions surrounded by concentric borders of diamond lattice, dot-and-dash banding and chevron stripes, thousands of individually cut pieces assembled into a seamless ivory-and-brown surface. The barrel body continues the same vocabulary, interrupted by a brass keyhole escutcheon, the domed form drawn from the tradition of the travelling trunk. An object of this inlay quality belongs on a writing desk or in a collector's study.
