Champlevé Enamel Bronze Vase — Figural Court Scene with Elephant-Head Handles — Set of 2

A pair of bronze vases worked in the champlevé technique, enamel fired into recesses carved directly into the metal.

The colours appear embedded in the metal rather than applied to it, the whole acquiring a patina that speaks unmistakably of age and craft ambition. A continuous courtly scene in ivory, saffron, rose and teal unfolds around the body against deep verdigris and sky blue, two elephant-head handles flanking the shoulder with trunks curled downward. Offered as a matching pair, these vases reward close study with every viewing.
