Carved Walnut & Camel Bone Room Divider — Four-Panel Arabesque Screen with Pierced Crown

Handcrafted

A four-panel room divider of monumental decorative ambition, worked in dark walnut with camel bone inlay accents and executed across every register with the full vocabulary of the classical wood carving tradition. Each panel is crowned with a pierced arabesque crest — openwork scrolls, foliate forms, and floral finials cut through the wood with a delicacy that belies the hardness of the material — creating a silhouette that is as much architecture as furniture. Below the crest, a frieze of turned miniature balusters spans the full width of each panel, a detail of extraordinary patience that transitions the eye from the openwork above to the carved relief below.

The body of each panel is organised into a hierarchy of framed cartouches: geometric lattice borders surround raised central fields bearing medallions, rosettes, and cross-star forms inlaid in camel bone — warm ivory points of light set into the deep walnut ground. The carving throughout is in deep relief, the arabesques and interlacing patterns cut with confidence and precision, the surface building in complexity from the scalloped base through the mid-section registers to the openwork crown. The four panels are joined by brass hinges, allowing the screen to be configured in a gentle curve or at angles as the space demands.
