Black & White Chequerboard Camel Bone Moon Flask — Op-Art Inlaid Vessel

Handcrafted

A spectacular decorative vessel of moon flask form, entirely clad in hand-cut camel bone and black resin tiles arranged in a mesmerising chequerboard pattern that radiates outward from a central ivory point across the vast spherical body. The optical effect is immediate and arresting — the tiles converge and expand in concentric rings that follow the curvature of the form, creating an illusion of depth and movement that shifts as the eye travels across the surface. It is as much an exercise in geometric precision as it is an object of craft.

The silhouette is drawn from the classical pilgrim flask — a broad, flattened sphere rising to a narrow cylindrical neck with a flat collar rim — a form with centuries of decorative history, here stripped of all colour and reduced to its purest graphic expression. The monochrome palette demands nothing of its surroundings and overwhelms everything near it in equal measure.

A statement object of rare visual power, this vessel belongs in a space confident enough to let a single piece do all the talking. Place it on a low plinth, a wide console, or directly on the floor — it commands at every scale.
